It’s been 15 years now, that one of the best who ever touched a mic left us… If he didn’t get shot, some say he would have been signed on Roc-a-Fella…
Whatever, the fact is, Big L was one of the dopest…

I remember getting slapped in the face by his rhymes so many times, the metaphores he had were just the craziest I ever heard, I mean, stuff like that :

« I jumped out the Lincoln, left him stinkin Put his brains in the street Now you can see what he was just thinkin ».. And well, I found it kinda clever and funny actually ! Cause Big L could make me laugh too, this line was one of them : “Before I buck lead and make a lot of blood shed Turn your tux red, I’m far from broke, got enough bread And mad hoes, ask Beavis I get nothing Butthead ».

Big L has been rapping with Cam’ron, Mc Gruff and Mase, remember that :

Then he did his classic album « Lifestyle of the poor and dangerous », with this timeless banger :

The first time I actually heard of him, it was with Big Daddy Kane, on the track « Platinium plus » on a Primo’s beat… Damn… This shit was hard, I remember when we had this track with my mates, we were just playing it high volume every time we were hangin out…

From that point, I just did my best to get that album.. « The Big Picture »… Sad fact, I discovered him at the time he died… but still, I keep ploaying it regularly, and the track « The enemy » which was the second Big L’s track I discovered (once again, produced by Primo, feat Fat Joe during some of his best days) is just hard as fuck and totally timeless, we’re talking about pure, raw hiphop…

I finally got the album on vinyle, just a few years ago, but every time I play it, it just always has the same taste… I really miss this area.. The technic of Big L, his style, the punchlines, his flow, his humour and charisma, juste made him one of the best ever. I can only recommend you to listen to it if you never did, and if you did, it’s always good to play those old classic tracks…
